How to DIY an easy plant table

I am planning to bring in a series of simple DIYs for around the home.
First in this series is a super simple side table that doesn’t require any power tools or man power.

A makeshift side table that is very laid back & oozes oodles of boho charm and you can use this in a lot of places around your home.

Things Needed:

  1. Concrete cinder blocks or old books & magazines (number depends on the desired height)
  2. Wood Plank (cut to the required size)
  3. Liquid nails (https://amzn.to/33MD3an)

Method: I have tried this DIY side table with both cinder blocks & books.
You can see mine with books in my master bedroom & with cinder blocks in my entryway which has now been shifted to
another corner.

The entryway table was used to hold a light, tray for keys & of course few plants!

For the actual construction – you stack up the cinder blocks or books and place the wood plank on top. That is it! In full disclosure, I have not used the liquid nails. You should definitely use them if you are planning to use it as a bench to sit on or if you are planning on building multiple levels.

Paint: Get creative with paints on cinder blocks or you could let them be for the raw industrial look. I have spray painted mine black.

Height: The height depends on your need. I like mine low & I have used 4 cinder blocks (2 on each side) as pictured above. Make sure that the wood plank is well rested on the cinder plank.

A perfect little reading nook for the kiddo & I

When using books, make sure to match the height on both sides equally as the size of each book is going to vary. If you are using magazines, which do not a have a hard top, it is quite probable that the stand will be unsteady. To counter this, stack the magazines with alternating open & bound end on top of each other. This way they would stay stable.

When using them outdoors: This could very well be used outdoors as a garden bench too. Use weather treated wood in such case to withstand the rain & heat.

To small things that make a home!

Let me know if you try this out in your home and I also would love it if you would share your comments & subscribe to my blog!
