What is Terracotta Tales?

TerracottaTales is my online store featuring handmade earthen cookware, serveware and home décor products. What started as wishful thinking in 2016 over dinner chats between me & my husband, is now shaping out to be more than I ever imagined it could be. I am now extremely proud to present Terracotta Tales to y’all!

Let’s rewind & I will take you back to see how it all started!

I have been a software engineer for the last 11 years. Back in 2016 is when I realized I did not want to be in IT forever and my heart was truly in a creative pursuit. Casual conversations started on the whats, whens, hows and ifs. If you have been following me on Instagram, you will know that I am very passionate about home décor and something that I don’t share much is my interest to cook. I love whipping up meals and trying out new recipes! And, for the last few years, I have been learning and converting to sustainable alternatives in my home. It was during this process that I realized, that the simplest way in having a sustainable home is to go back to how things were done in the olden days and to avoid things and practices we have adopted in the name of convenience.

I started moving towards cast iron & earthen cookwares and in my trips to India found that a lot of what was available in the market, did not suit my needs in respect to size or design or utility. That gave me the opportunity I was looking for. A gap that I could fill!

During our trip to India in 2017, my husband and I went visiting to identify potters who were skilled in their crafts and in 2018 in collaboration with my cousin Raj, we launched our Esty store. With no prior business experience, full time jobs & kids, there was a lot of learning & the process was slow.

The products in our first iteration was mostly to test the market. After a lot of contemplation & regrouping, I started to design products that I actually had in my mind initially, tested out prototypes and in February 2020, we had our second iteration of stock ready to be shipped to US when COVID and lockdown hit us all. The shipment finally reached us in December 2020.

What is different this time?

The products are unique, designed with the modern needs in mind. A earthen cookware that is suited for any cuisine.
Make a yummy dum biryani or baked pasta, make your chili or traditional dahi. A earthen cookware that could go from stovetop to oven to tabletop to serve in style. Sustainable home décor items that are unique and will set your home apart.

And the biggest change, I am going in with all my conviction – I quit my IT job! This was not in the plan, but I was doing no one any justice while juggling so many things. Terracotta Tales is now officially my own! It’s a venture that is in line with my creative pursuit and my vision to promote handmade arts and sustainable home. I am wearing a lot of hats right now and I couldn’t be more happier!
